Today’s Wicked Word: Wicked

wicked

This is what comes to mind when I hear the word wicked. The wicked witch from The Wizard of Oz, a movie I detest. I can’t really give a good reason why except that I watched it too young probably and it scared me. I didn’t get to have the teenage or adult experience of watching it high listening to Pink Floyd’s dark side of the moon or appreciating the camp of it all. Nope, for me it was sheer terror in an evil green woman stalking a girl and her dog, and OH MY GOD what was with the flying monkeys?! OK sure it’s hokey now, but to a 4 year old it’s terrifying!

There you have it, my lackluster addition (but an addition nonetheless) to Wicked Word Wednesdays!

  5. YAY! I wasn’t the only child terrified of the wicked witch :) I watched the Wizard of Oz with my girls not too long ago and I made the mistake of letting them know she used to scare me. I don’t think they’ll ever let me live it down lol

  7. I was older than you were when I saw The Wizard of Oz, but I was terrified of the tornado. Tornado warnings were common in the area where I grew up. The threats were very real. Your sentence that really caught me referred to “just looking for motivation to write.” I can’t relate to that. I write because the words in my head demand to be made public. It would be quite a different story if I wrote for a living. Deadlines for writing would be very painful. I hope you find that motivation is not necessary because of your love of writing.

    • For me it’s not a matter of having nothing to say it’s more about focusing me in a direction ;) it’s why I love these kinds of prompts. I’d never have written a post about the terror of the Wizard of Oz, but I’m glad I did since I’m not alone in it!

  8. Oh you and I are totally on the same page, sister! This movie is terrifying to a little kid! I used to have nightmares about the flying monkeys (until I was 14, I swear!) and even the tornado in the opener, right?!?
