Blogging 201 – Day 8 – making my blog a hub

Welcome to my hub. Because I am a computer geek, the word hub made me think of… well a hub.  This hub is a beautiful 4 port hub from ThinkGeek which is sadly no longer available, which is a total shame because it would look great on my desk. It would go well with the tardis shower curtain I am using as a screen to hide my closet after I removed the doors and added Ikea shelving.

I digress.

On Adoption: Part Four – The Quest for the Holy Grail

holy_grailThere is a proverb from Confucius that says  “Before you embark on a journey of revenge, first dig two graves”.  Clearly revenge isn’t the goal, but that proverb bounces around my head as I recall my search for my birth mother. I feel it’s really important to point out that you will be changed by your search.  The proverb feels like both a warning of being careful how you proceed and also knowing that the search and the results will alter everyone’s life forever.

Use caution.

What I wanted was a dog

LabradorRetriever_hero I had plans, plans for a dog.  A bandana wearing, Frisbee and ball fetching dog.  One to take walks with, or hikes even, to play with the niece and nephews, splash in the pool kind of dog.  I wanted a labrador retriever, color didn’t matter, just the perfect sweet fun buddy that labs can be.  Instead I ended up with cats. Opening the Pandora’s Box

Of all the things in my life I am passionate about, adoptee rights never really occurred to me as being one of them. It turns out however that I am not just rabidly opinionated about it I am quite passionate about my rights as an adoptee (and yours too).

Women’s World Cup Champions

Today in New York City, the first time a women’s sports team has been honored with a ticker-tape parade.

I’m so proud of our team and their victory. More than just the U.S. taking home the trophy, this Women’s Cup has proved that people DO like to watch women’s sports. Congratulations to all the teams that played and inspired their nations and the world, from the fierce competitors who are always in the top 5 to teams that came in and shocked the world with their heart and great game (Colombia).  I hope for each game viewed there’s a handful of young girls who take up the mantle and become the next generation of football/soccer players.

I am so proud to have watched the games, to know the names, to feel like I participated in my own way.  Kudos to you ladies.  You play and ROCK hard!  You know I’d have to include this song. ;)
